Get to know the inspiration of Jean-Noël Gabriel one of the three winners of Gallery of Style 2016 working at L’Atelier Jean-Noël Gabriel in Reims, France.
We asked him two questions regarding it’s inspirations. Here are the anwers he gave us.
Shu Uemura - In your city, where is the most traditional place that inspires you ?
Jean-Noël Gabriel – A traditional place that inspires me in my city, Reims, is the cathedral where numerous kings of France have been crowned. Its rich cultural history can be seen through its architecture, its height and its intricate stone structure, which have always been a personal source of admiration. The immensity of the place coupled with the silence inside is a refuge for me to let my thoughts run freely.
Shu Uemura - Where is the most edgy / trendy place that pushes your creativity to the next level?
Jean-Noël Gabriel – In regards to a recommendation for a trendy place, I would have to say the city of Paris with its rich cultural melting pot. Sitting down at a terrace watching people walk by is enough of an inspiration, as it challenges my point of view & perceive difference as a beautiful thing.

Shu Uemura - In your city, where is the most traditional place that inspires you ?
Kirsten Bassett - It's hard to define a certain area in London that inspires me because in truth, it all does! The city is such a melting pot of different cultures, historic buildings and modern trends. I love historic architecture and London is filled with it. Just the other day on my lunch break I stumbled upon this beautiful gothic Roman Catholic Church which was hidden by all the surrounding buildings and despite its size you can't tell it's there until you're on top of it! That's what I love about London- you can discover something new on every turn.
Shu Uemura - Where is the most edgy / trendy place that pushes your creativity to the next level?
Kirsten Bassett - London is also home to some incredible museums and exhibitions which provide a lot of inspiration, especially the v&a and the wellcome collection. For less "traditional" sources of inspiration I find east london is great for artists and trends. You've got places like brick lane which are great for market shopping and people watching!
