DigiMonday - GALGOMON (aka Gargomon)

Everything about Galgomon is patently ridiculous, and I mean that very much as a compliment. A horned, jeans-wearing dog/rabbit man with a pair of oversize machine guns for arms, it made it debut as an evolution for Terriermon in the first of the Digimon Adventure 02 movies and set the tone for later Terriermon evolutions remaining pretty delightfully goofy no matter how much larger and more heavily armed they may get (ultimately culminating in SaintGalgomon, a building-sized Gundam covered in cartoon dog faces, when it re-appeared in a much more prominent role as an evolution of Lee Jianliang/Henry Wong's Terriermon partner in Digimon Tamers.) Is this what the Tumblr-ers refer to as "staying silly"?

In addition to inheriting Terriermon's colour scheme and overall whimsey, Galgomon also follows in its pre-evolution's footprints by being...weirdly dog-themed for what is so clearly a rabbit-looking creature? Just as Terriermon is named after terriers Wikimon suggests that the "Galgo" in Galgomon refers to the Galgo Español (also known as the Spanish Greyhound or simply the Galgo,) a keen-eyed, fast-moving and rather lanky-looking dog breed originally hailing from central Europe (later becoming popular in Spain) as a hunting companion. While Gargomon's flat face and stocky build seems pretty far removed from the sleek, slender and sharp-snooted profile of a real Galgo the Digimon Encyclopedia's description of Galgomon as capable and surprisingly nimble hunter certainly seems to be illuding to its namesake! That being said the Encyclopedia also mentions its rabbit-like jumping abilities as well as the fact that it can glide using its ears, so the jury may still be out on exactly what type of critter we're dealing with here.

I'd also be remiss if I didn't pass along one final tidbit from the Digimon Encyclopedia; Galgomon's jeans are, officially, "D-Vi's." Like Levi's. But Digi. 10/10 silliness right there.
