The current Dame Luna is, tentatively, named Avulheid, and only rose to her station 9 years before the start of the story (or however many years it takes for it to make sense for her to have helped train Savwren). She follows in the footsteps of Gunnovine, who herself is the first Post Starfall Dame Luna, her own predecessor falling in battle against the Valcoth Empire during the disastrous invasion of the moon.
Gunnovine is noteworthy not only because she aided in the founding of Dunhallow, but because she is the first to accept earthborn Galalepi into the ranks of the Galalance Vigilant. When asked why she made such a change, her words were "beggars can't be choosers, and I don't care about impressing the old, the backwards, or the dead."
Avulheid seeks to not only continue the practice of recruiting earthborn Galalepi, but to work with her star student in building Galalance Vigilant outposts on the earth below for faster deployments.
