Aziraphale and Crowley 'kinda' adopt a young Hob Gadling when his family gets wipped out by plague/war/famine. And share custody while he grows and they continue to get their own personal sh*t together.
In his mid 30s, Death turns up with a request for him to be a friend/ share some of that family love for life and humanity with her little brother. Possibly don't mention the angel, demon legal gaurdian thing just yet though. Here's the plan.
Cue a complete shift in power dynamics where Hob knows all about the supernatural world and who Dream is. He's just waiting for the right moment to tell him. He was going to in 1889 but that did not go as planned. Aziraphale and Crowley remain alarmingly concerned about the entire thing but are good supportive dad types.
When Dream gets captured Hob comes to the rescue with a whole host of Gaimon verse back up. With a, 'Surprise! Please don't smite my parents. Tah, love you.'
(Repsoted with a doodle π)
OK, so what if Aziraphale and Crowley kinda, accidentally adopt Dream of the Endless? Stick with me...
So Hob, who's known the pair for some time invites Dream round to meet them. And after a few visits, Aziraphale starts mothering this poor soggy kitten of a personification. Because he just CAN'T help himself. The first time Dream throws a major tantrum in Aziraphale's direction, Crowley lays down the law, cause NO ONE makes his Angel cry. Then makes Dream sit down with a bottle (or five) of wine and talk this sh*t out with him. From that moment on, he officially becomes their broody little all powerful goth child.
Cue Dream actively seeking them out for support and advice. Showing them the wonderfully magic and fantastically horrific things he's creating in the Dreaming and Aziraphale proudly displaying pictures of them in his shop (in a, well that's definitely going on the fridge way.) Them having a "Not my baby bitch!" moment with Desire, Lucifer etc.... And Dream flourishing from having a positive parental influence in his life.
Meanwhile Hob is like... Mwahahaha, just as planned. π
@ibrithir-was-here @notallsandmen @academicbrainrot @hardly-an-escape I thought this may be of interest... Tamsin Greig as Lamia in 1996 TV series of Neil Gaimon's Neverwhere (available on YouTube)
Out of curiosity - have you had any other Michael!Hob and Dream thoughts?
Oh have I! π Pull up a chair. I've been researching into DC/Gaimon's creation mythos. Not that it matters too much, but if I'm using his characters I want to use his version of the cosmic hierarchy.
So according to DC, Mother Night is the oldest being in creation... Being the infintie darkness that existed before it. From which God, the one, the source (whatever you want to call them) emerged in the form of light. As far as I can tell there's no definite time stated for when Father Time appeared...but you suppose at the start of time itself. π The Archangels Michael, Samuel (Lucifer) and Gabriel are older then the Endless and helped create the omniverse.
And the official Gaimon take on the Archangels, there are seven. Michael, Samuel, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Saraquael and Rageul.
I could go on... But we could be here for hours. π
