I work in a museum that has several antique horse shoes, and I can’t believe it took me this long to think ‘gaggletack.’ Question: how rusty can a horseshoe be and still reveal changelings? Are they no longer pure iron if they’ve become heavily oxidated, a.k.a. rusty, a.k.a. composed mostly of iron oxide? Does iron oxide in a nobbly, pitted horseshoe shape have the same potency as pure iron? Does it have to be a horseshoe, or would an ox shoe work? Does the horseshoe have to be whole? What about ornamental horseshoes, do those have the same magic as practical horseshoes?
In other news, Nomura had the right idea, sometimes when there aren’t visitors around (80% of my day) I whistle ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King,’ the acoustics of the stone walls produce a very satisfying result. I literally cannot whistle in the same room as the life-sized mannequin, though, nope, the heebie jeebies are too strong
