Maeve could not remember the last time that she had fed. Had it been yesterday or the day before yesterday or even the day before that? Her mind had been so focused on the victims of the recent attacks that blood had been the last thing on her mind, even if she had been surrounded by it. She could have easily just licked off some the blood that her hands had been coated in instead of washing it away or feed on one of the victims or grab a blood bag but Maeve refused to go against her morals. She had only fed on her conduits for hundreds of years now. But not going against her morals was now making her weak and lethargic. She could feel the familiar ache in her gums as her fangs longed to come out to feed. This was a terrible habit of hers, it always had been. Maeve hated having to drink blood to survive so much that she often went for the longest periods without any that her body could stand. But right now she was pushing those limits. She needed blood, now. Maeve staggered her way out of the hospital, her vision blurry and her head pounding. Caspian, she had to call Caspian. Her fingers fumbled as they tried to pull her phone out from her bag but she had not been paying attention to her steps as she descended down the front stairs and sure enough she was falling. But before she could face plant onto the ground, someone had caught her. “Tha…thank you,” Maeve gasped out to whoever had saved her and looked up to see a familiar face. “Gage,” she said in slight surprise and had to make sure to keep her eyes on his face and not the pulse point of his neck, “Do you..do you think you could get my phone for me? And..and call Capsian. Tell him I need him. Now. Please.” And that was all she could say before she went limp in his arms.
