The extension follows the geometry of the garden rather than the house, the resultant gap between the existing house and the addition allows light into both spaces. A singular square pitched roof with a central rooflight gives the new space a distinctive characteristic. To allow clear walls on the front and back the roof is only supported on the side walls and a single slender steel column, which seems to mark the entrance to the new space.
