â ...would you believe me if i said iâve never been ice skating before ? â     hand in hand with the man she could now call her husband,  after so much fighting.  backlash between the both of them and a hell of a lot of trouble.  peggy could finally be hand in hand with him.  her fingers intertwined and almost leaning on his shoulder as she walked.     âsomething about being on the ice & having less control is quite terrifying. â

â ...oh my god-- â     the agent found herself standing in shock,  almost losing grips of the files in hand.  she found herself staring at the howling commando longer than she shouldâve before her head began to shake and she was moving closer to him with a large smile across her face,  the files being moved to a nearby desk until she stopped in-front of him.     â ...it cannot be... gabe ? what in the world are you doing here ? â

Kate hadnât even gotten to be when the soldiers started to line up for breakfast. The nurse was exhausted, but she was also starving, and her hunger overcame her. She walked over to the mass and smiled a the man next to her. âAnything good today?â

â« Â five times my muse swears itâs not a date, and the one time it maybe is.
i. Â it was only drinks with a friend. thatâs what sheâd been repeating in her head, almost as though it were a mantra, for the last hour. frankly, she wasnât entirely sure why she was nervous, nor what she needed any sort of supportive mantra for ---- they were friends, that was it. but it helped subdue the butterflies. until sheâd downed a few drinks, that was, and the nerves went away all on their own. all the same ---- it wouldâve been impossible to say that she hadnât enjoyed herself.Â
ii. it was harder to brush off when he showed up insisting she join him for lunch. her workload wasnât enormous that day, by some miracle, and though sheâd go to her grave denying that it had held any sway, the way he smiled so easily ---- so confident in the fact that sheâd agree ----- well, it hadnât hurt matters. but they were friends, having a good time, catching up on life. that was a l l.Â
iii. she ordered coffee for two. coffee for two, and a casual stroll through central park, laughing, talking about everything and nothing. reminiscing. telling each other stories theyâd both heard before, but were either too polite to mention, or enjoying the otherâs company so immensely that hearing the other speak, regardless of the subject, wasnât something theyâd protest. still, she refused to humor the fact that there might be something more than friendship. it was all far too casual for that, wasnât it?
iv. before long, it was a regular thing. they met up at least once a week, this time for a visit to the cinema. generally, peggy wasnât the biggest fan, writing it all off as a waste of time. not that she didnât enjoy movies, no that wasnât it at all. but too much could happen in the time she was sitting, watching pictures move across a screen. there was too much work to be done. but she didnât say no, perhaps because she enjoyed his company so much. wasnât good company plenty of reason to do anything? and, she thought, she probably wouldnât object to doing it again ---- so long as he was the one she did it with.Â
v. oh god, this was a date. dinner and dancing, there was no denying, was a date. perhaps, she realized, thatâs what theyâd been doing all along, and sheâd been too damn stubborn to admit it. perhaps sheâd been too afraid of ending up hurt again. sheâd lost too much, lost too many, she couldnât lose him to. but they saw each other so regularly these days it seemed such a thing was unlikely, and even if it were ----- well, she was ready to take a chance. they ended up dancing until she was certain theyâd both be sore in the morning, but the fact that she couldnât seem to wipe the smile off her face was reason enough to not be sorry for a single second of it. perhaps it was that same reasoning that prompted her to kiss him at the end of the night, and still she wasnât sorry. maybe, just maybe, a happy ending was possible after all.
