i think they didnt really hear about each other until second or third year. lily started hearing of dorcas when marlene started grumbling about this girl on the slytherin team. dorcas heard of lily, but just the general idea of her and didnt really know her. i think it wasnt until third year when they had some classes together where they met each of her and started really hating each other. they started trying to one up each other CONSTANTLY and started becoming jealous of one another(old post here where i talk about them hating each other)

whereas i think they became somewhat romantic during sixth year at a party and are drinking. lily’s totally drunk—drinking more and more whenever she sees dorcas—whereas dorcas is slightly less drunk. they get into an argument at some point—i dont know what for but they do—and lily just suddenly kisses dorcas and then theyre making out and so on. they quickly started doing that more often. ive said before, i dont know if their relationship ever becomes romantic— i think the resentment and jealousy and anger is too big for them. i do think dorcas actually did grow to love lily, though, but lily was struggling with deep internalized homophobia—and while i think she did love dorcas, she just couldnt accept it. there were moments though!! i do think though near the end, before lily broke it off, they became more romantic and had some soft moments. but that was when lily felt too real and had to break it off.

one of my favourites is that they hate each other but simply just cant get enough of each other. like i dont think they ever had a phase where they genuinely showed each other love—it was always rivalry, anger, and resentment. they resented and grew jealous of each other for different reasons and could never put those feelings away. so while yes i think they did have some form of love for each other, the resentment and jealousy of each other clouded the relationship.

to put it simply theyre each others lacy!!!

i also ofc love them being academic rivals—which i think is the basis of a lot of people’s perceptions of the ship. but i think the rivalry still bled into their relationship. like their foreplay was arguing over homework and seeing who could finish the assignment and they’d both be wet the whole time.

hate sex. that’s it. them having hate sex is forever my favourite thing.
