All the different races of Verdant! And cause we’re all suckers for size difference, a height chart! Minotaurs: These bovine people were once refugees from another land who took hold in Verdant, turning their horticultural expertise to the nations benefit. They control the majority of fertile farmlands and the Head of the House of Agriculture is almost always a prominent Minotaur. Because feeding the country lies on their shoulders, the have the highest allotment of thralls from the Queen. Orcs: Long ago this wide stretch of desert was their land before it was anyone elses. Tricked and betrayed, they stuck it out for as long as they could before finally making a mass exodus over the western mountains for unknown lands. They found Ta’Nakahour, a lush expanse of jungle in which they could spread out and flourish. But their heated rivalry with the humans has not cooled in the subsequent centuries. Humans: Over two thousand years ago, humans came over the eastern mountains from a collapsing empire, the vast majority of which were women. Faced with a choice between enslavement or survival, they chose to thrive, binding together to defeat bandit hoards and establish themselves. This gained the attention of the indigenous Orcs, who offered them land in exchange for fighting on the front lines against their rivals, the Yenya. Eventually tiering of being war-fodder, their fate changed when their leader, Tiamati, betrayed the Orcs and began to drive them from their own cities, establishing the nation of Verdant. Vadels: A recent addition to Verdant, they have traveled from overseas seeking new business opportunities in the nation through shipping, import/export, and exotic goods. No one knows much about them beyond their seemingly endless supply of finances. But there are rumors that the underground slave trade has gone from a trickle to a rush since they gained a foothold. Yenya: Two thousand years ago the Yenya had a empire in what is now the Red Wastes. All that was eradicated when the supervolcano in the center of their lands erupted. Hundreds of thousands died in the initial explosion, which millions were killed in the cloud of red ash and smoke that choked the land. The resulting mutations of the environment made the land almost uninhabitable, forcing them to flee to the desert. They were immediately rebuked by their rivals, the Orcs, resulting in a seemingly unending war of vengeance and reprisals that was made worse by the interference of the humans. The remnants of their people survive even now, often finding work as bandits and raiders to keep their small packs alive. Gabelins: Once the Gabelins thrives in an underground metropolis, a beacon of wealth, trade and culture. But when the volcano erupted it flooded their tunnels with magma, destroying their cities and forcing the remaining Gabelins to flee to the surface. They took up as nomads, holding onto their culture and heritage, but with each lost generations a little more knowledge is lost to them. They maintain as well regarded traders and crafters, but they remain unwilling to integrate to larger society in favor of keeping their heritage alive.Â
