𝙿𝙰𝚁𝚃𝙽𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙽𝙶  𝚆𝙸𝚃𝙷:   @g1eek,   + maude.

   the  second  shot  had  done  exactly  what  she'd  hoped  it  would  .  not  enough  to  leave  her  buzzing  ,  just  enough  to  sand  away  the  sharper  edges  of  walking  into  a  room  already  filled  with  conversations  she'd  yet  to  join  .  she  lingered  comfortably  at  the  edge  of  one  cluster  after  another  ,  content  to  listen  more  than  speak  until  there  was  something  worth  contributing  .  it  was  easier  that  way  .  people  often  revealed  the  most  interesting  parts  of  themselves  when  they  thought  no  one  was  paying  particular  attention  .

   eventually  ,  a  familiar  flash  of  green  caught  the  corner  of  her  eye  .  casper  excused  herself  with  little  more  than  a  polite  nod  before  drifting  through  the  crowd  toward  maude  .  for  a  brief  second  she  took  in  the  completed  pairing  ;  buttercup  standing  where  she'd  expected  to  find  her  sooner  or  later  .  with  blossom  still  absent  thanks  to  what  was  either  an  unfortunate  stomach  bug  or  an  impressively  poor  decision  involving  taco  bell  ,  the  costumes  looked  just  incomplete  enough  to  be  funny  .

𝙿𝙰𝚁𝚃𝙽𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙽𝙶  𝚆𝙸𝚃𝙷:   @g1eek,   + maude.

   casper  stood  at  the  kitchen  sink  with  her  sleeves  rolled  to  her  elbows  ,  rinsing  dried  coffee  from  a  mug  that  very  obviously  did  not  belong  to  her  .  the  faucet  hissed  steadily  beneath  her  hands  while  late  sunlight  spilled  through  the  window  in  fractured  ribbons  ,  gilding  the  cluttered  countertops  until  even  the  mess  looked  softer  than  it  deserved  .  she  had  already  washed  three  plates  that  weren't  hers  ,  thrown  away  takeout  containers  abandoned  on  the  coffee  table  ,  and  wiped  down  a  counter  sticky  enough  to  glue  paper  to  stone  .

   she  reached  for  the  dish  towel  without  looking  up  .  "  if  you're  going  to  leave  your  mess  everywhere  ,  at  least  stop  pretending  someone  else  enjoys  cleaning  it  .  "  her  voice  carried  easily  through  the  house  .  level  .  calm  .  stripped  of  accusation  and  somehow  sharper  because  of  it  .  casper  had  never  learned  how  to  make  her  words  gentler  simply  because  people  disliked  hearing  them  .  the  towel  moved  methodically  over  the  ceramic  before  she  finally  glanced  toward  the  doorway  .

   "  and  before  you  tell  me  it  wasn't  yours  ⸻  it  was  .  i  watched  you  walk  away  from  it  this  morning  .  "  she  set  the  mug  down  with  deliberate  care  .  "  actually  ,  that's  becoming  a  pattern  .  "  her  gaze  lingered  only  a  second  before  drifting  back  to  the  sink  .  "  not  the  dishes  .  you  .  "  another  pause  .  "  every  conversation  i  overhear  ends  the  same  way  .  someone  leaves  looking  embarrassed  and  you  leave  looking  satisfied  .  if  that's  the  goal  ,  congratulations  .  you're  consistent  .  "
