Mercedes Benz X-Class 6 Wheeler
In times of rising energy costs and increasing environmental awareness, Mercedes-Benz could be considered a bit of an outlier when they launched their G-Class 6x6 in 2013. The vehicle, albeit being a success and selling out fast, was only meant to be produced in very limited numbers and its production ended after only two years in 2015. These cars have since become very sought after and can fetch seven-digit numbers when they are up for sale.In 2018, Classic Youngtimers Consultancy in collaboration with Polish tuner Carlex Design announced the Mercedes-Benz X-Class 6-wheeler. The rendering got a lot of attention and by 2020, production was underway. The car is based on a standard X-class, the offroader launched in 2017. You would be forgiven for not knowing about the model; it was released only in Australia, New Zealand, parts of Europe, Africa and Latin America and never really managed to catch on. The model was discontinued in 2020. Nevertheless, the Dutch tuning garage mentioned above saw in the X-class a vehicle they could turn into something quite special and have some fun with, and we think their intuition was spot-on. The X-class 6-wheeler is a gloriously silly thing that you did not know you needed before seeing it here.
Underneath the bonnet sits a V6 turbo diesel with 3 litres of displacement and a power output of 255hp. This does not make the X-class a particularly fast or powerful car, but that was never the designer’s intention. They willingly left the engine untouched, as it provides for 406ft of torque and is rather usable in its standard configuration. This is a utility vehicle, and the designers want that it gets used as such, unlike the G-class 6x6, of which most have probably never seen any mud, if they get driven off the road to begin with!
