what do you wish the author would reveal/had revealed about your muse?
i guess i’d have liked to know more about his early life--?? the manuscript is a tad more revealing than the final publication, what with the lines about becoming a “slave to certain appetites” and being constantly plunged into “the mire of [his] vices,” but even that is pretty ambiguous and general. beyond knowing that he was born into a large fortune, we know literally NOTHING about jekyll’s family, upbringing, school years, or early life in general. the first time we meet him is when he’s fifty, and his death comes two years later; and really, that’s all we ever see of his life. i’d have loved to know where he went to school, how much his friends knew about his vices (since utterson obviously did), what his relationship with his parents was like, whether he had siblings, why he chose to pursue degrees in law as well as a medical degree, what he did to get the attention of the royal society to be inducted as a fellow... i could go on for AGES. we just know so little about jekyll before the age of fifty, and i wish stevenson had given us more of that.
What are Cosette's feelings on Fantine growing up?
I mostly just missed her and dreamed of the day she’d come for me when I was with the Thénardiers. But when my adoptive father came and got me, and I learned what had happened, I mostly just wished I’d known her better. Growing up I had a deep love and respect for her, and she has always been an influence on the kind of person I am. Everything I do is in her memory, and in the hopes that she would be proud.
I have no idea what's happened, but the c word is HIGHLY offensive over here in the UK, just as much as the US. I don't know where you heard it's not, but it's seriously held as among the worst words. If anyone has called someone that, it's not a joke. It's just awful.
