FWY! - Gateway Cities
Bandcamp Monday! FWY! (music for freeways) is the moniker of Edmund Xavier, and the instrumental music he makes is extremely pleasing minimalist kraut-jangle action. Or something like that! The drifting/shifting textures, the catchy bass lines, the spaciously simple drum machine rhythms ... it’s all very nice. There’s a Michael Rother vibe for sure, and I’m also reminded at times of the underrated 80s/90s instrumental rock combo Pell Mell. Gateway Cities is the latest FWY! release, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg. I’m looking forward to digging into more on the Bandcamp page ...
