Today, the final copies of my book arrived, and they’re so much better than I could have imagined. It’s 8”x10”, bigger than both my hands. It’s 112 pages, 6 chapters, and 240 illustrated panels.

This has been a year in the making, and it’s so much better than I could have ever hoped. Even just one year ago, all of the mental health and motivational battles I was fighting had me convinced I’d never make it to here. I didn’t believe I’d graduate, let alone have a BFA.

I’m so proud and so happy to finally be here. It’s possible; making your dreams happen is SO doable. And I’m so glad my friends were supporting me—and carrying me when they needed to— the whole way.

Basically I really like thinking about the biology of it! For the actual spearmaster, Suns bioengineered them to have no stomach and no mouth so they would have a place to store the pearl. I like to imagine though that Whisper existed before Suns, and so Suns had to modify her to fit the job.

So how would that work on a human since she doesn’t have a tail? I’m thinking basically the data pearl goes where her stomach would go like usual, and that causes her stomach paralysis cause yknow. Softball sized object crushing your stomach. So then Suns modifies her to have this hole in her back that grows these keratin spears. Like spearmaster, they’re connected to her via a vein like thing that lets her leech energy out of stabbed enemies. Her stomach and throat kind of shrivel and wither away. She still has a mouth but it’s pretty much useless, and she finds speaking difficult cause her throat is shriveled, hence the name Whisper.
