Last week all of the students in NYU's Future Artists program were brought to an admissions presentation at the top floor of NYU's Kimmel building. Many of the students from our program went into the presentation fearful and nervous about what a school like NYU would desire of them to be admitted. However their largest takeaway was that it's important to be yourself and to select a school that nourishes them and that they see themselves in, both academically and socially.
“Working in the studio was really intriguing and a great experience. Using the meter to measure the lighting and seeing the effects of the change in f-stop gave me the capability to live a day in the life of a professional. Directing the models, even though they were just our classmates, made the fantasy of being Mario Testino feel close to real.” - Fred Giron, Future Imagemakers 2017

"Using the components of a photo essay (overview, portrait, action, detail), I aimed to capture the hectic lifestyle of my household. My household consists of my mother, two five year olds, two moody teenagers (including me) and a pregnant woman (my oldest sister). It can get rather loud. However in the evenings when we are all tired out it gets nice and quiet enough to just hang out in the living room whether its to help out with the kids homework or help my mom with the chores or to just watch tv and relax. Story: Children are viewed as cute, small humans; humans, who are meant to be seen, not heard. Everybody wants to play or interact with children, but the moment children become fussy everyone chooses to ignore them or pretend the children aren't there. Mothers, however, are the ones behind the scene, calming and caring for their children as they continue to take charge of the rest of the household.

I believe that all are is open to the interpretation of the viewer. In my photo essay, I combined reality and fiction together to depict that art is not solely based on experience or solely based on creativity, it is a combination of both.
