Daylight was an illusion of safety. So many people assumed that the monsters that plagued them would disappear when the morning came, but that was not true. Even if Grimm were called creatures of darkness, their teeth lost no bite and their claws lost no edge in the sun. They could be just as vicious as they were under the cover of night, and just as active too. The only difference was that people could see their demise coming.

But Ruby didn’t see demise glinting in the monsters’ tusks; she saw an annoyance.

Miscellaneous/Notes: Eyyyy what's up? Unfortunately I've been having a bit of a slow week while writing. Mostly because what I need to write for this next part is a big ol' fight scene. Fight scenes are definitely not my forte, which is why I put off working on this one so long and instead focused on the copious amounts of a n g s t in part one of chapter four. I'm out of angst to write now though, so can't put it off anymore!

Since RWBY fightscenes are comprised of over the top spectacle fighting they feel both more and less difficult to work with. More difficult because pretty much every writing resource I can find is primarily concerned with realistic fight scenes, so a lot of the advice does not apply. Less difficult because instead of being bogged down by logic I can just go oooo shiny big explosion wow~ in several places. Hopefully the final product is enjoyable to other people.

On a fun note though I've been rewatching a ton of RWBY fight scenes to get ideas. I have to ask, which is your favorite fight? Mine is probably Maria vs. the Nevermore and Tock. Young Maria's style is just so flipping cool, and her use of gravity dust is just---*chef's kiss* I love her.

Since there was a lack of excerpts this update, go ahead and have a teaser image wip. I have a slightly revised idea of the art I actually want to insert in the chapter, but I spent days on this one (and it's still not done lol) as a potential illustration for a scene in upcoming pt 2:
