Omg so I’m friends with a lot of my old teachers on Facebook and my old English teacher just posted this! I’m so in awe. She had her students bake something that represented a theme from a book!! So the first one is “poison” cupcakes to talk about how the idea of poison is omnipresent in Romeo in Juliet, from literal poison that Juliet takes to how the family feud poisons everyone’s happiness. Im in love with these. I’m stealing this for my future classroom.
Found this video while doing research about future classrooms.
Learning Objective Verbs
From my observations it seems that the practice of completing full lesson plans quickly falls by the wayside, but so far the most useful concept I have come to understand is learning objectives.
Rather than students simply doing assignments, I must define what it is I want them to learn and be able to do.
SO I think it’d be useful to keep a chart of learning objective verbs in/on/around my desk once I’m teaching.

I think, when I’m a teacher, I’m not going to assign homework. I think I’ll just have optional like study guides for each topic with questions and stuff for them to work on. Because I feel like high school kids are already under so much pressure to do so much that homework with strict due dates and stuff really just doesn’t help BUT if a student is really struggling with a topic or just wants to brush up on something, those resources and that practice should be available to them.
Because I know I always did kinda poorly when I wasn’t doing my homework but sometimes I just didn’t have the time or energy and I don’t think that should negatively effect someone’s grade, especially if they are still able to perform well and show proficiency. It shouldn’t matter how much they did at home. I feel as though homework should be optional, at least in my classroom. Something you can do to make yourself better with the material, but not something you’re being forced to do and waste time on if you already know the material and feel comfortable with it and confident in your abilities.
But I don’t know! What are y’all’s thoughts on this? (I’ll be teaching high school English, btw)
( dresdendoll1944 tagging you since i know you teach and I value your opinion on this stuff!)
