Byler Last Name
So unlike most fandoms the Byler fandom doesn't seem to have a universally agreed upon last name for Byler when it comes to them having the same last name. It seems more up to the individual person whether they become Mike and Will Byers, or Mike and Will Wheeler, or Mike and Will Byers-Wheeler (or even Wheeler-Byers).
Now while I believe the most likely scenario is that Joyce changed her last name back to her maiden name Maldonado and Will and Jonathan get theirs changed to that as well, and then Mike and Will take that, HOWEVER I have thought of something infinitely funnier.
PRESUMABLY when Joyce and Hopper get married, Joyce will take Hopper's last name. Now, I don't know how the rules of adoption work, so I don't know if as legal adults Will and Jonathan can get legally adopted by Hopper or not, but regardless, Will and Jonathan actually end up taking Hopper's last name as well, making them William Hopper and Jonathan Hopper.
SO. Michael Hopper. Can you fucking imagine? That'd be the funniest cherry on top of the Mike and Hopper beef on planet earth and the best part is it's a VERY REAL POSSIBILITY BECAUSE WHY WOULD WILL AND JONATHAN WANT TO KEEP THEIR HORRIBLE FATHER'S LAST NAME?
Seriously that's something that always bothered me in canon I get it's the 80s and it's not as progressive of a time but WHY after Lonnie is fully out of the picture did at LEAST Joyce not have her name changed back to her maiden? I also get that eventually she'd remarry and change her name again so maybe it was a lot of work but given that Lonnie is even known in the town as not being the best guy around why would she want herself OR her kids to be associated with that man?
But yeah, rant aside, Will and Mike Hopper. Because it's hilarious and it would infuriate Hopper to no end and it would just be funny.
And also sorry but in a universe where Mike and Will get together and Mike isn't enjoying forced conformity there is no SHOT either of them would want to keep their fathers last names, which is why I think the most likely scenario is they become Maldonado's however them becoming Hopper's is infinitely funnier.
