Panther Chameleon (Furcifer pardalis), family Chamaeleonidae, Madagascar

This is Furcifer lateralis, a species that prefers open grasslands and savannah. We found a lot of these chameleons on my most recent trip to Madagascar—mostly little juveniles in the long grass.

This species was described in 1893, but was not seen again by scientists until 2018!
