Charlie Lucas and the Thrillers - “Wonderful Feeling” (Waterbird cat. WB001) TONIGHT! This episode of First Thursday at D.C.’s Tavern in Hoboken, New Jersey will feature some of my favorite Soul and Funk 45’s. Like all genres not all the records are rare and some of the best are under $10. I’ll try not to say, “This is one of my favorite records," before playing each record…BUT THEY ARE! When it comes to Soul and Funk I am partial to instrumentals. It’s not that I dislike vocals, but for the most part once I heard you say something, it isn’t going to get more exciting or interesting after the two-hundreth listen. Grab the electric twanger, wail the sax, or belly up to that organ and blow me away. Charlie Lucus and The Thrillers do just that on “Wonderful Feeling.” I once described this as a kid running down a hill as fast as he can trying to keep it together. Even when you make it to the bottom you know you were out of control but it felt so good. Guitar, Drums, Sax and Bass just killing it from start to finish and putting a smile on your face. And yes, one of my favorite records of all time. This is going to a fun set so don’t miss it. If you feel inclined to get up and shake your ass, please do.
