Well, well, well. What do we have HERE?👀 Yup, it's my first #fullsquish #vintagemtb. Got this 1997 Trek Y11 today for $200 from the original owner, a guy about my age and height who hadn't ridden it in years and wanted it gone. He bought it new, upgraded a few bits (peep that air/oil shock, it originally came with a Fox Vanilla, is what's on there better? I'm assuming so) and rode it on local-ish trails (shout-out to #wissahickon in Pennsylvania, USA). I haven't gone over it yet but after speaking with the owner at length (awesome guy), I know he treated it well. I'd say this bike has approximately an 87.8% chance of becoming my FOURTH mtb, and FIFTH bike overall (n+1 FTW) once I check it out thoroughly and see how it feels on the trail. It ticks the most important boxes: 1) Complete, correct & well maintained☑️ 2) My size☑️ 3) Adult owned☑️ 4) Used, not abused☑️ 5) "Ice Inkwell Blue"☑️ 6) 90s tech I know well☑️ Now, I know this thing couldn’t compare to a modern full-squish, but, that's exactly the point. This could be a nice in-between: something to give me a sense of what full suspension is really like without tempting me to head up to @mountaincreek and get in WAY over my head and end up in the ER. Yeah, just not happening. I'll leave the bike parks to all you more competent, skilled and FEARLESS riders (you know who you are...) More to come...
