Congratulations... to Tomizuru 富鶴 (left) and Fukuzuru 福鶴 (right) from Osaka-Nanchi who made their debut as Geiko on 9th December 2024! There are now six to seven Geiko working in Nanchi. It may seem a low number compared to other Hanamachi, but after a long draught, the triple debut in May 2019 and social media presence of almost all Nanchi Geiko seems to have changed things for the better: since then, seven new Geiko debuted and six of them are still active. Osaka Geiko debut announced
Both Fukuzuru 福鶴 and Tomizuru 富鶴 from Tanigawa たに川 Ochaya in Osaka-Nanchi will debut on 9th December 2024!

Upcoming Geiko debuts in Osaka: Tomizuru (富鶴) reported that she and Fukuzuru (福鶴) will debut together in December 2024. With them, the number of Nanchi Geiko will rise to 6.
A new Minarai started working at Tanigawa Ochaya in Osaka! She first appeared at Mebae-kai (めばえ会) in August 2024. Her artistic name has not been decided yet. In this photo, you can see her with Fukuzuru (福鶴), who is also still a Minarai.
Tanigawa Ochaya in Osaka-Nanchi announced that a new Geiko apprentice joined their ranks this May 2024. It was deceided she would receive the name Fukuzuru (福鶴). She is the first new apprentice in over a year, the last was Chizuru (千鶴, became a Geiko in November 2023), who joined in February 2022.

Spotlight on: Fukuzuru 福 鶴
I got a request for photos of geiko without okiya association so I think I’ll do a spotlight post for each one, starting with geiko Fukuzuru. Fukuzuru was a geiko by 1960 and may have debuted as a geiko. She is one of the most senior tachikata (dancer) geiko in Kamishichiken and usually has a solo or a partnered dance in the Kitano Odori. You can see her dancing briefly in this video with geiko Tamayuki.

Fukuzuru-san is the oldest Geiko of Kamishichiken.
She is a tachikata Geiko, a dancer, and still performs at the Kitano Odori every year.

Senior geiko of Kamishichiken: Katsukiyo, Fukuzuru, Naoko, Tamayuki, Katsumaru, Shimeyo and Teruyo. I made this as an appreciation post, because senior geiko don’t get a lot of attention from photographers and they’re a part of Kamishichiken too :)
