In this great FujoCon panel on fujoshi research - I consider myself pretty well educated on the topic but I am learning things!!

One of the panelists put together this huge resource on Asian GLBTQ media fandoms: fujoshi.info

Danmei, BL, and Yaoi fall under Queer Media Studies in Asia. It is a rich category of literature used to freely explore sexuality, gender identity, social politics, and relationship dynamics for those often not at liberty to do so.

Since at least 2015 in Anglophone fandom, anti-trans groups began spreading disinformation about these topics, and unfortunately, fan spaces have never fully recovered. Instead, they are riddled with xenophobia, misogyny, racism, misinformation, and miscommunication.

Here you will find over 200 resources to educate yourself and others on BL, Yaoi, Danmei, Anti-fan behaviors, Psychology, and LGBTQ+ history written by scholars and professionals in these fields.

Hey folks!  I hosted a panel on BL cliches and had a link to a BL cliche poll beforehand and here are the results!

Interesting notes:

At the height I believe my panel had 235 participants or so. Fucking wowzers thanks all! Out of those I got 96 responding to the poll.

When it came to BL Cliche that were beloved, I was a bit surprised to see that tons of people fucking Dokis. 

#1 BL cliche that was hated was Evil Female Characters followed by dickbag semes, and I’m not gay you’re just special.

What people added to the BL cliche they love were :

Himbos/morons in love

 Happily ever after

size difference

Enemies to Lovers

What people added to the BL cliche they hate were :

MPREG and Omegaverse

Torture Porn

BL Sub genre that was most loved was Monster boyfriends, followed closely by Yakuza (little surprised by that),  and then tied for 3rd is salary man/slutty ukes/Delinquents

Beloved BL Sub genre that was added were:

Class/caste difference

Adult slice of life

Fantasy

1.) Give no shits ukes/out of fucks ukes and [Hell yeah] 2.) Work for love

BL Sub genre that was most hated was high schools by a long-shot.  Followed by Omegaverse, and Animal ears/kemonomimi.

Despised BL Sub genre that was added were:

None (several people added this)

I can’t control myself cause “I love you”

fated mate/meant to be

If I went long people overwhelming me just wanted to dunk on stupid cover art.

And as to other cliches?  The suddenly roommates was mentioned twice, nothing else was mentioned more than once.  Fujoshi turns into a guy and Wings were interesting but nothing else really stood out for me.

Real cons might be done for the moment, but I’m attending my first virtual con!! I’ll be at FujoCon next weekend. I even submitted an application for the cosplay contest! Here’s the video I included with the application.

I’m super bummed that I won’t be going to Otakon this year, or any other con for that matter. My next con is tentatively Katsucon 2021 but that’s still up in the air. Hopefully I’ll at least be able to go to Otakon next year. It sucks but its better to be safe.

Hey remember that panel I recorded for fujocon?  This is the prerecorded version I did.  I don’t think it’s quite as fun and off the cuff as the one I did live, But I hope for those who missed the panels or want to re-watch the recs, that this is handy.

Here’s the breakdown of people’s seme/uke preferences in the quiz I posted up for !

I know some is a bit hard to see but interesting notes:

Only 2 people preferred semes, and between ukes/semes/riba, riba won out in a landslide.

Awkward Dorky Semes won for best kind of seme.

Horny, Badass Ukes won for best kind of uke.

Nobody liked Dopey Ukes.

Just above Dopey ukes there was a 4-way tie at the bottom between angsty ukes, manipulative ukes, violently tsundere ukes, and delicate wilting-flower ukes, each with 2 votes.

So overall the spread of the types of semes that were liked was wider but people tended to only like a couple of types of ukes.

People much preferred a stereotypical seme who bottoms rather than a stereotypical uke that tops interestingly enough!

However more people liked a stereotypical uke that tops over a tsundere seme.
