I finished the dress today! I committed to cardinal cosplay sin of using broadcloth but it honestly turned out okay. I had to make a lining for the bodice so it wasn't see through but the skirt was gathered enough you can't really see anything, not even if I have something in my massive pockets. It keeps the skirt light and flowy. I'm wearing nude short underneath but it's mostly so my thighs don't chafe.
It worked up pretty much like the mockup. It's been a while since I put in a zipper so I messed it up the first time and stitched in the wrong place. When I fixed it and stitched in the right place, I liked the look of two stitches and just kept it. It was also my first time using a hem foot and there are places I messed up but overall a success. It takes so much less time than traditional hemming.
The cosplay is totally done except for contacts and makeup! The contacts are ordered and somewhere in the US now I think. Once they come in I'll start messing around with makeup. It's really coming together! I wish I had remembered to take a picture with the nail, alas. Next time!
I'm so excited for Otakon!!! This is this first time I've had an entirely new cosplay in a while. A couple years I think. I went through my old cosplays preparing to move and I'm thinking of bringing back some old one. I have plans to update a couple, but some seem good as is. We'll see!
