Queer As Day Cosplay

Badges are here!!! I picked paladin and my wife picked bard and they sent us two bards. Alas. Apparently a lot of people had this problem. I can live as a bard haha

So excited for the con! My cosplays are done and my new badge ribbons should be here soon :) I’ll post a lineup soon!

With the contacts and makeup figured out, I'm considering Elendira done! The contacts are kind hard to see but they are blue and green haha I tried blonde makeup at first and I didn't think it popped enough so I tried white instead and I liked it a lot better! I think I'll stick with blonde for the eyebrows tho

The nail polish stayed on for 24 hours without any kind of noticeable chips or scratches. I like the color for it.

I finished the dress today! I committed to cardinal cosplay sin of using broadcloth but it honestly turned out okay. I had to make a lining for the bodice so it wasn't see through but the skirt was gathered enough you can't really see anything, not even if I have something in my massive pockets. It keeps the skirt light and flowy. I'm wearing nude short underneath but it's mostly so my thighs don't chafe.

It worked up pretty much like the mockup. It's been a while since I put in a zipper so I messed it up the first time and stitched in the wrong place. When I fixed it and stitched in the right place, I liked the look of two stitches and just kept it. It was also my first time using a hem foot and there are places I messed up but overall a success. It takes so much less time than traditional hemming.

The cosplay is totally done except for contacts and makeup! The contacts are ordered and somewhere in the US now I think. Once they come in I'll start messing around with makeup. It's really coming together! I wish I had remembered to take a picture with the nail, alas. Next time!

I was planning to use a PVC pipe but my roll of pattern paper had just run out and the tube was exactly the right size so I decided to use it. It ended up having a weird texture, so I'll probably use PVC if I remake it, but I do like the spiral design in it.

The base was just circles, two made of thick foam that the tube went through then one made of thin foam to cover the end. I tried a few sized but 4 inch looked best. The tip was a little more of a pain. I had to mess around with a cone pattern. I found a generator for the pattern (not AI) but I still printed out a bunch before I got the right size and shape. Then I cut it out of the thick foam.

I just used contact cement to glue all the parts together and waited for it to dry. The longest part of this process was honestly waiting for stuff to dry and cure. Then I used a hot knife (not very well) to even up some of the edges. I got the hang of it part way through but part of the head ended up a little lopsided. You live and you learn! And know I have a cool new tool. I'd like to get a heat gun at some point too.

Then I tried to fill in gaps with caulk and sanded the edges with the dremel. I sprayed a few coats of plastidip on it then a few layers of gray spray paint. Finally I added a clear coat. This process would have taken a few days but with waiting for things to dry, it took over a week haha There are gaps I didn't fill well, parts where the texture is weird and the stray cats that eat on our patio got cat hair stuck in places, but overall I'm very happy!!

I couldn't find a good undercut wig so I decided to do some wig science and make my own! I got a really short and slightly longer wig in the same shade from arda. Then I cut the two wigs in half and sewed the top half of the longer wig to the bottom half of the short wig. That first cut was terrifying! But honestly, it turned out so well. You can't even see the stitches in the wefts and it's totally seamless from the outside. It ended up a little bigger than either wig so I think I added a weft somehow haha but it still fits

I kinda went back and forth about what kind of mask I wanted for Elendira. I finally decided on a kind of company issued work mask for the Eye of Michael haha I tried a few different fonts for the words but ended up using the sci-fi looking one. I think it turned out pretty good!

I also finally replaced my kid Vash mask because it got pretty gross and the vinyl was peeling and melted when I tried to iron it back down. I also like the longer sides.

After the first draft of the pattern, I made a mockup! I'm very glad I did because I had to change a lot haha but to be expected scaling up a children's pattern and changing the design a little. Then I ended up with the final version of the pattern that I'm going to be using for the final version of the dress. It was interesting to see it compared with the pattern I started with.

Also, I added giant pockets! I always add pockets when I can and with the gathers on the dress I can hide a lot in the skirt part. I could probably fit a switch in here if I wanted to haha

Finally, a new cosplay!!! Life has been so crazy with work and school and everything else, that I haven't had enough free time to work on anything new. I've got a small window of free time so I'm taking advantage.

While we were at Awesome Con, we also got a photoshoot of Sam and Dean! I didn't know if we were ever gonna wear these cosplays again so I wanted to get good pics. Honestly, it was mostly for my mom who is a huge Supernatural fan haha

We ended up not being able to go to Friday of Awesome Con 2026 which was a bummer, especially because I missed a Supernatural panel, but overall it was still amazing. I was Dean with my wife as Sam on Saturday. The first thing we did when we got there was our photo op with Misha Collins and it was life changing. He's so sweet and the photo looks great.

There was also a small Supernatural meetup which was fun. It wasn't really a cosplay photoshoot but we got pics with the other few cosplayers there. There was trivia and my wife won a patch!

Sunday was Teru Vash. This might be the last time I wear it for a little just because I've worn it to almost every con since Otakon 2023. It might be time to let some other cosplays shine, especially less hot and bulky ones haha

Nekocon 2025 was super fun! We stayed at the con hotel which is always a plus. I have it booked for 2026 too! I wore kid Vash on Friday and Teru Vash on Saturday. On Saturyday night, I wore my rave Vash. My cheap Party City wings broke so I upgraded to a wing harness which I think also looks much better.

I'm wearing a back brace because I injured my back at work shortly before the con. It turned out to be a more serious injury than I realized and I'm still recovering and working on changing to a new, less physically demanding position at work. Bleh. But I still had a good time at the con with not too much pain haha

We finally went to Anime Ink for the first time in 2025! We've been meaning to for years. I planned two cosplays but only wore one because I went in plain clothes on Friday and we skipped Sunday. I just threw some stuff together for Vash to show off my all my tattoos. It was super fun!! I got a Venonat tattoo (it my was my grandma's favorite pokemon) and two eyebrow piercings, all of which turned out great. Unfortunately my glasses broke so I'm taking a break on doing any kind of 98 Vash for now. Unless I finish the 98 kid Vash cosplay, of course.

The pics we got from the shoot of Rem and kid Vash turned out soooo good. These are some of my favorites but we got a lot back. It was so fun doing a group cosplay with my wife again :)

I guess I never even finished posting my Otakon pics. Alas.
