Reasons to do art as a job:
It’s fun, it’s relaxing, I love creating, I love making things for people, colors are fun, designing is cool, I love working out how to do new things, thinking of scenes that I could draw is 80% of my brainspace, I could draw for hours and never get bored or annoyed
Reasons to not do art as a job:

was talking to @moonlightandmarble earlier after I did my annual "is Savage Love still sort of trash" listen, (answer, yup) and I just happened to hit the one in which Dan Savage discussed "partialism," or the attraction to individual body parts as part of answering a question about whether women could be foot fetishists. Now, clearly the answer is yes, and we *did* get there eventually, but we took a HUGE long detour through "well women/afab folks tend not to be into partialism," which is where I literally stopped on the sidewalk and went FUCKING WHAT, SON? because an ungodly number of AFAB friends of mine know *exactly* what we each mean if one of us mentions someone they're into and goes "oh man, and their HANDS."
so long story short, DSav, still sort of talking out of his ass beyond his lived experience. Also, Women/AFAB, often very pro HANDS. (and a fair number of hipbones, if I'm judging off the same folks I know into HANDS.)
