Literally JUST YESTERDAY I hated him more than anything. And now he's one of my favourite characters. And I think I realised the reason is cuz he feels hateable at frist glance is cuz he goes against the fun gangs (and by extension. The players) beliefs and makes them question the morality of what they're doing. And he's actually Right about it. He's a person, the other flowers are persons to. The game has been trying to tell you that Darkners are people with feelings, dream companionships, hobbies, etc etc this entire time. You sealing Flower Kingdoms fountain is stealing away all that AND their rights to simply Exist. He points out the hypocrisy of wanting his take away 'his' world while you keep your own (the Castle Town is the home to Ralsei, Susie, and many other Darkners? Well, Flower Kingdom is their home. So what makes you think you have the right?). He legit made me question myself even in my frist play through where I hated him. I was like "Wtf?? Why does he actually kinda have a point?? Why do I agree with this asshole???" Now. Thinking back to it? I don't just think that he has a point. I think he's straight up right. The reason he comes across as hateable is cuz he voices it in a way that doesn't try to appeal to the fun gang or the player. He's not nice about it. And I hated him for that, but then I realised. That he doesn't have a real reason to be nice about it. The fun gang, we , are trying to take away everything from not just him, but the rest of his friends too. Even if it's for a greater cause. Realistically speaking, I don't think anyone would be nice about it either. He knows Kris made the fountain and giving them sentience with the intention to take it away in less than a day. He has the right to distrust them. Ralsei literally goes against everything he stands for with his mindset alone. And the funny part is that despite that he doesn't hate them. His behaviour towards them also sterns from love. Hes extremely passive aggressive towards Ralsei specifically, but it's cause he wants him to break out from his mindset and see his potential, (he outright tells him that he's stronger than he realises). And Ralsei needed a push from it in general, even if said push came from negative emotions. He gives chances to Kris and Susie to leave because he doesn't want to fight them. It's like how the other flowers is motivated by love. He is too. Even in his wrong actions like trying to keep Asgore in the Dark World and convince him he's better off with them than he is with his real family. He was doing it because he and everyone else wanted to repay his kindness towards them, and saw how heartbroken he was over everything and tried their best to make him happy.
And his fight in general is so well executed. It doesn't feel like you're fighting a villain, or an antagonist. It feels like you're fighting a hero whose just in the opposite side from yours. Neither side is in the wrong really. The fun gang does have a right to fight and seal the fountain due it being a threat to the world . The flowers also equally have a right to fight back and defend their home and will to be setient. And I feel that's really tragic when you think about it. Not only that, but the last part of his fight works as a perfect foil to Omega Flowey. Whereas the Souls were forced to power up Flowey and rebelled against him once they were free; The Flowerys stick side until the very end and willing power him up. (It's legit "The Power Of Friendship" LMFAOO). Flowey has a breakdown after his defeat. Flowery accepts his defeat. And itsss I don't know how to describe it. I feel like Flowery in general is a very well done character because at frist glance he comes across as hateable but when you actually take the time to think about him you realise that he has a point and it forces you to think about your actions and question the morality of what you and he fun gang are doing and I'm not kidding being forced to confront and think about that fucked me up. And I'd even go as far as to say the reason he (mostly) comes across as hateable is not only cuz of that but also cuz like I said, the way he goes about it isn't Nice. And we as the player have come to love Kris, Susie and Ralsei so much that a character calling them out in a mean way makes us mad, even when they have a point. (Thought I'm not saying that's the only thing, he does have some moments where he's genuinely being an asshole and not cause of his beliefs. But I still feel like those moments were motivated by Love too) And I think me realising all that made him on of my favourite characters even though I LITERALLY HATED HIM JUST YESTERDAY. Man opinions can change really fast let me tell you that. I honestly didn't care for if he died or not at the end. But now I want him to be alive because I want to see him again. No joke. I actually like him more than Tenna. What happened.
