The alternative voting method.
I find this idea VERY compelling. What are your thoughts? Does it work? Is it a good idea? Should we implement this?
Please watch and leave a comment or two.
Basically, this video explains the alternative vote method, in which voters vote for candidates in order of how much they would like to see them in office.
This eliminates strategic voting, where people vote for a party (for example, Liberals) in order to make sure the party they hugely dislike (for example, Conservatives) does not get into power.
With this method, you rank the candidates in order so that if the candidate you voted for is in last place in polls, he or she will be eliminated from the running and your vote will automatically transfer itself to the next candidate in your list. This process of elimination continues until there is 2 candidates left.
This, in theory, will make people happier with the system, for people's votes will not be ignored if they vote for someone who ends up with 5% of the total votes. Also, candidates will not be elected with a mere 33% of the vote, leaving 66% of the population unhappy.
