Aaron never lies. He talks around things, distracts, and smiles and lets others believe whatever conclusion they’ve drawn themselves, but he never lies. In fact, Aaron often expresses how much he hates  lies: words with lies built in, white lies to make people better, he can’t even lie to save his life when tasked with posing as Markus. He panics at the thought of living a lie and automatically corrects his name to Aaron when he first meets John and Mabel. Mrs. Summers was right when she called Aaron a bit too honest and so was Lochlann when he said Aaron spoke the same over Kirin’s bone as he did off of it. Truth is in Aaron’s nature.

I believe Aaron is a Kirin doppel and so was Markus. Aaron doesn’t know. Markus did, and so does the Lady. 

Markus was supposed to save humanity, but how? If he was a Kirin, he could rally humanity behind an emperor of their own. He could have offered his blessing to Conner. 

Markus had a habit of following Adelaide and her Kirin bone sword around. It sure would be convenient for a Kirin to have a reason not to lie if he physically couldn’t. 

I’ve more reasons to believe Markus a Kirin doppel, but most of them come from another part of my point-that the Lady knew Markus was a Kirin doppel. She saw no reason to question Aaron over Kirin’s bone when they first met. Said Aaron could have had a seat on the king’s council anytime he wanted. She didn’t question that he had walked to Onekin entirely on foot, just comments on his distaste for horses. She dodges a dragon powered flamethrower, likely by doppel shifting under illusion, and tells Aaron he’ll figure the trick out eventually even if it won’t work as well for him. She relaxes when Aaron asking as Markus questions if Aaron’s mother is the same as his. I think she knew Aaron was a Kirin as well and was relieved Markus didn’t realize that she had ordered the death of the only other isle Kirin. 

I think Aaron being a Kirin is the real main reason she ordered his death. Or at least one of them. The Lady often seems to have multiple games at play to entertain her. Perhaps she knew Aaron was a Kirin doppel before Markus wrote to her plotting or maybe she didn’t. But it would have been inconvenient to have two opposing Kirin trying to crown an emperor. Or twins forbid they counsel each other. 

There’s another reason I think she could have ordered Aaron’s death. One she didn’t mention and that has little to do with Aaron being a Kirin. The King of Twokins was an enclave man. How he ended up in Twokins is a mystery, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Lady is an enclave woman herself. The Lady is older than she appears. Who’s to say that she didn’t have any children before Adelaide? She could have been trying to crown a son long before she had her chance with Conner. And even after her chance with Conner came it would be a nice balance to have a son ruling the downs and one ruling the topside with a Kirin supporting each(if she knew Aaron was a Kirin). She could have her own pick of which ruler she wanted, and how interesting would that be? Until Aaron killed the Wolf King. Then he had to die, because what if he picked a ruler she didn’t approve of next?

Meanwhile, on Aaron’s end there is so much foreshadowing that he’s a Kirin. There’s his adversity to lies. There’s his preference for the Stag cloak. His desire to fly but his belief that wings are unnecessary. His obversion to horse riding but his belief that the horses are smarter than they appear. His kinship with the white reindeer calf that he would help crown the Spring Lord. The white hair the Spring Lord gives him to match that could be age but could also be argent Kirin hair showing through early. The way he is drawn to Rose after she save him in jail and how Rose’s ambition further convinces him to make decisions that he wouldn’t otherwise make. Lochlann even comments that he’s “a majestic white beast, a construct of ancient magic” while Aaron is wearing a griffin cloak and wouldn’t that be the truth if Aaron was a Kirin? 

Another take I’d like to make regarding this theory is that i believe Aaron is the Kirin half of his and Markus’s doppeling. I don’t know how exactly they ended up doppeling because ftakb says that Kirin normally didn’t take doppels but I think they doppeled early and baby Markus’s memories overwrote Kirin!Aaron’s. Perhaps the Duke had something to do with it and that’s why the Lady said his indiscretions didn’t end at the one act. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lady had something to do with it too. We have a whole kingdom tale with the fox trying to get a Kirin to give his blessing, and you can’t convince me that those kingdom tales aren’t true when we have deaths that have at least a limited idea of future events. We still don’t know who the women who left Aaron in the downs is. 

They're both very respectful of nature and the fact that it could kill them if they're not careful. They're also firm believers in speaking to a fellow in their own language if at all possible. They are both as skilled at words as they are at weapons, and are able to talk their way out of an alarming amount of situations. Right now, i think the only thing that would give Aaron some pause is the fact that book Hiccup comes as a package deal with two-to-eight dragons and at least one other human.

("Oh, dragons from the Barbaric Archipelago would never doppel," Hiccup said, in a tone of voice that implied dissapointment at this fact, "they're far too arrogant for that sort of thing."

Presumably the people of berk have a similar attitude towards doppeling, or at least towards dragons, that the onekin humans do. And honestly there's not much point doppeling with sheep, so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't part of everyday life like it is in FTAKB, but more like a fey folk story, meant to be a warning.

Hiccups first encounter with a dragon, eye to eye, is in the woods when he frees toothless. But I don't think either one of them are in that space yet. I think that comes when they do their trust bond bit.

And boy does heart!hiccup FREAK.

Later on you'll be able to tell them apart, at least a little, when one of them loses a leg. Which one? Who knowssss. Although actually on that note, the heart doesn't get the wings' memory, right? So it has to be the wings!toothless that leads the vikings to the nest. Unless that weird reaction from toothless is heart!toothless being drawn in for the first time by the nest, having his instincts overwritten by the call of the red queen which isn't impossible but would have to be explained.

I also think they're wayyy more willing to be able to fly independently than in canon, because it would mean both of them are able to fly at the same time, which would be rad

now obviously Markus has replaced Aaron's new life or whatever as confirmed by death

but like how does this work??? does markus' death now have the info dump on his "og timeline life" like all the other deaths or is Aaron's death the only one with that info?

would og Aaron have reincarnated at the same time that Markus did? because Aaron played a part in spring coming round.

is Markus showing up out of the picture now b/c he's been reborn?
