this isn't a fully formed thought but i think their politeness and conforming to societal expectations of "good children" actively harm them and when they stop giving a fuck about what the adults in their lives expect from their comportment and their manners etc they get so much stronger

really what im saying is that the demands on children to be "good" and to respect their elders and be polite and whatever are super harmful and i think asoue does a top notch job of illustrating it like

what do they do when they wake up? re-combobulate. slowly. room check, pillow weapon check, and if sam's there, sammy check.

how do they sleep? position? poorly. mix of on his back, and the worst possible vertebrae destroying positions you can imagine.

what do their hands feel like? rough, dry, callous-cracked. the right one is softer lmao.

if you kissed them, what do they usually taste like? altoids, hopefully. desperation, most likely.
