The photos were, in of themselves, ordinary. Unprovoking. Lexi and the young senator exiting the same hotel at separate times. A coincidence? Or an affair? Whichever journalist who had been tipped off by an enemy of the senator - likely somebody who wanted to dirty his reputation with old photos they had taken - were shrewd in their evaluation. Because they were absolutely correct. The internet was slow on the uptake of the rumours but there were the sprinkling of comments. Slut. Homewrecker. But it didn't take long for Anya to work her PR magic. Alexis Blythe was the daughter of Senator Blythe, an unassuming dinner with the senator who was a family friend, a skeezy misdirection by the paparazzi for not getting a photo of the third person who was there - her own father. Irresponsible and manipulative tabloid work. The comments were immediately buried by bigger news that Anya had prepared in case of crisis. Despite it being resolved with the rumours shut down before they became widespread, the worst part about all of this for Lexi was the frustration that she had stored away for the year that she had left him, moved away temporarily to lick her wounds. She hadn't even seen him in a year - let alone sleep with him. But here was the universe trying to shove it back in her face.
Lexi found herself at Atticus' door. The starlet wasn't sure why she was there. Maybe because she knew he didn't know her work. Maybe because she hoped that there was somebody who would forgive her, even without knowing the awful mistakes she'd made. He never looked at her starstruck and yet, still gave her the time of day. Lexi could only imagine what went through his mind when he saw her glistening eyes and tear stained cheeks, voice cracking in plea, "Atticus, please. I need to get away."
