Hello everyone and welcome to another Monday and that of course means another Fairy Tail chapter to take in, digest and enjoy. This week is chapter 470 (only 30 more till 500 can you believe that!) Hybrid Theory and business has picked up. So let’s get into it. This post may be short.

I’m going to focus mainly on two things this week. One is God Serena. As this chapter revealed he is the 8th dragon slayer. He is also a second generation like Laxus and Cobra. He is this way because he has 8 dragon lacrimas in his body which gives him the insane power. So it’s fitting that he is the strongest wizard amongst anyone in Ishgar and in Alvarez next to Zeref. Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Lightning, Light, Shadow, and Poison are the know elements that are used by the slayers so far that we know of. The question that could provide any interesting backstory to Serena is where he acquired all those lacrimas. However as it seems, we may not ever get that answer. To give credit where credit is due, Mashima did a wonderful job with Serena’s character up until a certain point (I’ll get to that later). It was great to see his power in action and I understand why he took down the other Wizard Saints so quickly last week and fought back so easily this week. Think about if he could go Dragon Force, or duel, or tri elements. That’s deserving of the hype and the praise for sure. It’s not OP power, it’s how a one-sided fight should be. The problem is with the other Wizard Saints as they were down and for most of the chapter and looked decent for only a moment before being put back down and overshadowed by Acnologia. I said last week that Jellal or Gildarts will take Serena on, and I’m glad I was wrong in that regard. After finding out Serena’s power and character position in the story I can see why Acnologia was the one to take him out. It’s logical to connect the dragons to each other, and you need a big animal to go up against another bigger animal. Serena may have had the love of the supposed Dragon Gods but they weren’t in his favor this time and the Dragon Devil came to collect another soul. Is Serena out for the count? I want to say yes, but August and Jacob may take time to get him so help so that would put them out of the fight for a while. That allows them to come in when the timing is right and have a great showdown with whoever it may be. It’s unfortunate for an awesome character to get one-shot, but in this case it seems like it was the only logical option.

The second thing I want to focus on is the big bad himself, Acnologia. Man can he make a chapter go from good to fucking awesome! Look in my opinion, Acnologia is one of the best characters in the series because he is so simple. He’s a former dragon slayer who slayed so much he turned into one and wiped the entire race of his own accord. That caused the rest to hide their souls in their respective slayers cause Acnologia already killed them. He is so powerful that Zeref fears him and the Black Wizard wants pretty much nothing to do with him. Acnologia’s only goal is to slay the remaining slayers and then be King of the Dragons as he will then be the only dragon in the world. Like I said, simple. Mashima has done a fantastic job writing him because of this reason. He’s big, he’s bad, he wants death and destruction. It’ll make his eventual downfall that much more impactful, as it will be to a defined point and cement the climax of Fairy Tail. Acnologia was the only option to take out God Serena, but we didn’t know that until today which is a double edged sword kind of problem. Interestingly enough Serena’s goal was not Fairy Tail but Acnologia which to me was cool to see. I don’t think the Dragon Gods are going to play a role if perhaps Zeref’s God of Death plays a more major role and they conflict with one another, but that’s stretching it. The problem again is that I think Acnologia is here a little to early, but this may not be a big of a problem as I think. We know he’s here for the remaining slayers and logic says he won’t actually slay any of them (Not Natsu, Not Wendy, Not Gajeel, Not Sting and Rogue, Not Laxus, Not Cobra) due to their character positions in the story so the question is: What will he do? I can  actually see Laxus and Cobra going down in dramatic fashion, but that’s again a stretch. My guess is the same thing with Igneel will happen here. He’ll take a considerable amount of damage and then retreat. Also I would like to point that Acnologia being in his human form is probably weaker than his dragon form and he still one-shot Serena on full power. Someone better be praying for Fairy Tail.

At the end of the day, Acnologia is the best villain of the series and I’m concerned for Fairy Tail and Alvarez at this point. He doesn’t take sides, and it’s all about him and no one else. What is going to stop Acnologia? I say it’s E.N.D. That’s the only thing he fears and I think that’s what standing in his way of ruling the world. Zeref said even with one arm that he could do it, so why isn’t he? A question that raises more questions than answers. Those answers lay within Acnologia so we may never know.  I see why Gildarts said his encounter with the Apocalypse Dragon happened in a flash and Serena learned the same fate as well. 1 down, 7 more to go. Zeref, Fairy Tail, and Acnologia are finally all here at this war. Let Ragnarok official begin!
