With 82.63 million tonnes of fruit production (in 2013), India is the second largest fruit producer in the world, next only to China. And most importantly, fruit production in the country is increasing at the rate of 7% pa. While this is the positive aspect of our horticulture sad thing about our fruit industry is that 50% of the fruits produced go waste due various reasons like – poor quality, decay and physical loss due to poor handling.

Loss due to poor quality of fruits produced is something which can be tackled at the farming level itself – by educating the farmer to use right kind of seeds and by creating awareness about latest technologies in horticulture. Problem of decay can be addressed to through providing cold storage facilities to the farmers at affordable prices. The problem of physical loss due to poor handling which may occur at the farming stage or wholesale or retail stage can be tackled through proper packaging. Today several materials are available which are meant to protect fruits from getting damaged while handling and transporting.

‘PROTECnet’ by Supreme Industries is a packaging product meant to protect fruits from physical damages while handling and transporting. Made from expanded polyethylene foam (EPE / PE), ‘PROTECnet’ is available as tubular netting ‘sleeve’ of various diameters and lengths. Being closed-cell products, they remain unaffected by water and moisture. Moreover it is 100% recyclable and environment friendly. PROTECnet is light in weight and thus will have negligible impact on total weight of the package. It is hygienic and non-toxic and thus will not affect the quality of the fruit in any manner.
