Again. Womp womp womp. So I’m kicking butt today. I’ve finished up a good chunk of the projects I want to put in my portfolio a week or so ago (sorry I didn’t write about that then), and now I’m reading this book I bought a few days ago, “Front-End Web Development The Big Nerd Ranch Guide,” and I’m loving it so far. I working through the projects, which I’ll probably add to my website, and talk about the experience of creating those sites. 

I’m starting at the basics right now, with HTML, and CSS, which I know pretty well but the extra walk through is nice, because I’m learning more about the command line for windows, and how to use node.js and browser-sync. 

I just feel like a web developer the more I go through this book, and it’s that extra confidence that I think will give me the push I need to start applying for jobs. 

I’m hopeful that once my portfolio is perfected as much as possible, and the resume and the studying is finished, that finding a job wont be impossible because I’m so excited about moving forward and getting a leg into this field. I can’t wait to dive deeper and deeper and really branch out into computer science, and algorithms, and one day go back to school for this. 

I can’t remember if I already created an introduction for this page or not, but hi, I’m Bri. I’m going to be blogging my coding experience as I prep myself for the job search. 

I’ve been coding for about a little over a year now, and I don’t feel as prepared as I would like to, so I figured this would be a great chance to talk about the journey. 

I won’t make the promise to do this daily, especially since the weekends are when I have the least amount of time to do anything, but I will post as often as I can to keep you guys updated on what’s new on the agenda. 

This week is all about JavaScript, and I’ll say this, JS makes me a little anxious. I’m not entirely sure why, but most likely it’s because there are so many components to it that I’m trying to wrap my head around, and while I have the basic fundamentals of variables, objects, arrays, functions, and loops, I still feel like it’s tricky put that knowledge together with DOM manipulation and other newer techniques such as arrow syntax and ES2015. I’m trying to get a good grasp on as much as I possibly can in this area because it’s much more challenging for me to get a grasp on. 

HTML and CSS are usually pretty straightforward for me to work with, except I need to get familiar with cross browser compatibility and testing. 

It feels good to talk about this. As someone who wants to go into front-end web development and who has felt like she hasn’t learned or progressed very much, it’s nice having a conversation (whether it’s in this format or more inclusive and interactive) to see just how much I already do know. 

I’m so excited about the future ahead of me in this field, and I can’t wait to do a job that challenges me and teaches me something new with each and every assignment. Right now my focuses have been pretty restricted, as I want to focus on being as proficient as possible in these categories before spreading myself out too thin, but this blog will be a great way to share things I would love to work on in the future.
