I’m at a point in life, where I’m unfazed by a person when they mispronounce my name. Early on I almost changed it. Years went by and I ended up with a nickname of Richie (for three reasons 1 I watch Richie Rich the cartoon as kid. 2 I People said I was like that straight edge from Happy Days Richie Cunningham. 3my last name of course people saw that and made the inference it actually my first. So over the years I got used say it was some years ago. I adopted a policy of telling acquaintances that my name is Richie, and friends I was comfortable with that my name is Jens. Now over the ten years I mellowed that policy some. I got to a “don’t even correct them point”. Now as old as I am I don’t care what you call me... be it @theshootist81 Jens, (yenz) or Richie... just don’t be this guy at the wack pizza joint and call me Jeas (jeez). Man that was hard to swallow, and so was his cooked pizza. I mean if your into darker, crisper crust, by all means go and eat up. This was wreck I cringed at his pizza and him saying my name, but only under my mustache. So here it is my short story, I’m named after my great grandfather Jens. A danish man who came to this country for a better life, passed up an opportunity to take the Titanic to America. Rode a train through Canada to Pennsylvania Dutch country, avoided a tornado by mere minutes. After seeking shelter in a neighboring Dutch farms house he contracted a terrible illness, leaving him bed ridden for weeks. The farms young sister stayed at his side. Years later they were married. Some years later, I came into this world a member or a sea faring family. My DNA test don’t lie. Over 90 percent Scandinavian, the rest just generic mixes from other parts of the world, (too small to tell) but that’s it. My name is Jens Christensen Ritchie (Yenz•Christensen•Richie).
