Thoughts on the Tokitae news? I was a little peeved that they just had some football guy speak for a lot of the conference because he misspoke by saying they were gonna do a full release since he isn’t qualified to speak on that sort of thing, but fortunately they’ve clarified since then that they will just do a sea pen, not a release, which of course would be a disaster. I am glad that Toki has a chance to live in a bette environment than that pathetic tank, I hope they’re able to get past bureaucracy in time to complete the project before Toki’s old age starts catching up to her

I spoke on the topic here and here. Unfortunately, I don't think the move is going to go well. Tokitae is not a good candidate for transfer to a sea pen, and the decision appears to have been made by Dolphin Company executives and wealthy donors (such as the football guy and the Friends of Lolita co-founder, who is a real estsate mogul), rather than veterinarians, marine biologists, and animal care professionals.
For Toki's sake, I hope it goes well. But in my opinion it's shaping up to be an even worse version of Keiko's ill-fated release. But yeah, at least they plan on keeping her pemanentely in some form of managed care rather than completely releasing her (which I don't think most journalists seem to understand, based on the article headlines I've been seeing).
