This week: sounds from Frieze Art Fair 2016 where Green Art Gallery, Dubai, exhibited Palestinian artist Shadi Habib Allah’s mobile phone installation ‘A Defective Wave Shields Disparate Topographies.’ Plus a discussion with Samsung Young, artist and composer set to represent Hong Kong in 2017 Venice Biennial, on his sound/video walk the Frieze Project commission, ‘When I have fears that I may cease to be, what would you give in exchange for your soul’.
Habib Allah’s installation featured found objects, a sound work and photography in the Frieze Focus section of the fair, a section for galleries that only began after 2004. Samson Young discusses his pathway into art and the thinking behind the music and videos in his piece.

Familiar products at the fair some of the art we observed seemed like leftovers from past shows. Kind of a high-end left-over garage sale. Although for us, the Frieze was a bit lackluster, sales we here were very good. Our pick for the better fair this year was the Armory Show, but you never know depending on the curator, next year could be different.
