#friction fire

brief introduction i’ve made to show the bow drill friction fire method. a couple of modern conveniences, but otherwise true to historical practice.

They enjoy ducking into the safehouse for bounties and a place to rest up and regain health. When they see the Associates fighting Scorn, they grab their weapons and join in. Maybe the Associates don’t quite consider your guardian a ‘friend.’ people in their position don’t really make friends, but they’ll nod a greeting when your Guardian shows up, they’ll offer a clawed hand to help your guardian to their feet, they’ll accept the occasional gifts of gunsmith parts and snacks from the Tower. 

Imagine your guardian does consider the Spider a friend. a source of supplies and information, someone to talk about old earth artifacts with, someone you trust, and while you’re -aware- he isn’t a good person, you know what he did to Crow and Glint, but Eliksni don’t see Ghosts the same way Guardians do, and besides who -wasn’t- angry at Crow before getting to know him?

Yes, the Spider’s bad, but guardian can’t really bring themselves to dislike him. 

Until one day your guardian is bringing in a bounty. A net full of empty ether tanks draped over their shoulder. They’ve got a box of yaviirsi figs and some earth tech they found in the EDZ and they can’t wait to share it with their friends...

but then Crow steps out, and sets a hand on the Guardian’s shoulder. Tells the Guardian they should come back later, with something gentle and sad in his eyes.

But of course your guardian shrugs off the warning, because Spider’s never turned them away before. And they start into the safehouse, but about half-way through, they bump into someone.

One of the Associates. A low-ranking supply runner known for his jittery manner and reluctance to meet the Guardian’s gaze.

And he’s staggering, clutching at the smouldering, stinking stub of his wound, and for the first time, this Associates meets your guardian’s gaze before passing out from the pain.

And your guardian drops the ether tank, and the figs, which scatter to the ground like spilled excuses. And your Guardian catches the associate before they hit the ground, and they know what happened, it hasn’t processed yet, but they know.

But because their mouth hasn’t caught up with their brain, they speak, the words almost mechanical.
