I do think he may have has a feeling of trying to fit into the family, having a bit of a feeling of inferiority of uselessness sometimes as he's a prince in a Queendom, even though Ferid and Arshtat have made sure they aren't planning on marrying him off for diplomatic reasons and want him to find his own way in the house (Ferid probably would have inducted him in the Knights in another few years; if failing that being his mother's envoy...)

Frey definitely knew Skald was a relation of his father by the time he left Nirva Island, but definitely came to the conclusion on his own that he's his grandfather shortly after. Like?? Did people not think Frey was intelligent enough to see this and not put two and two together when we meets this older Admiral who looks too much like his father to be coincidence?

Even after it all comes out he still calls Bernadette by her name instead of Aunt Bernadette though, which Bern doesn't mind too much.

It is not stated in game, but my personal headcanon is Arshtat knew Ferid was from the Egan family, but when they married her grandmother basically asked him to not make it too obvious as being a foreigner was already enough for hackles to be raised, and if they learned he was a scion of the illustrious Egan clan from the Kingdom of Obel-- and technically some sort of foreign nobility-- it would make things worse.
