⏠NOW PLAYING : ÌÌâ STRANGER IN YOU by EBRIL
The moonlight shone through the window, the tv light glowing down on you both. Standing in the living room, voices raised. It was so stupidâit started off with you worried Billie was working too much.
And now, here you were. Screaming, tears, and pulling at your hair from the stress.
âI do want you to succeed, but your fans love you so much! They wonât mind if you take a break!â You screamed out, desperate for her to understand.
âNo, you donât!! All you ever want is for me to just have all my attention on you 24/7, and I canât do that!â Billie shouted back, arms flailing.
âOh my god, I know you need to work, but youâre working too much! I donât want your attention all the time, I just want you to not die from overexertion!!â You choked out, the tears rushing down your face.
You just wanted her to understandâthat was it. She was working far too many nights, from 7 in the morning to 9 at night. You knew it wasnât healthy, and you wanted to help. But Billie was seeing it a different way.
âJust leave me the fuck alone and let me work!! Jesus, do you not care about me at all?!â She forced a chuckle out, scratching the back of her neck.
âI do! Thatâs why I want you to take a break! Please, justâjust listen to me!â You desperately said, voice cracking.
âYou obviously donât! You want my attention all the timeâthatâs why you want me away from my work!! What makes me happy!â Billie shouted, pointing her finger straight at you.
âWhat?! Billie, thatâs not whatââ you tried to say, before her voice cut you off.
âItâs exactly what youâre trying to do.â She stepped closer, getting in your face. âYou want me all to yourself, to be under your control. Is that it? You want the famous pop star all for yourself, huh?â
Your eyes widened. How could she ever think that of you? âBillie, no! I would neverââ
âOh, but you would. Youâre an attention-seeking, pathetic woman who just wants constant attention to feel good about herself.â She snarled, and your heart sank.
Was that really how she felt about you now? After all these yearsâshe thought you were an attention seeker? Pathetic?
You felt a sudden wave of anger, hurt, and pain wash over you, compelling you to push you just enough to get her away. But thatâs what triggered it.
Before you knew it, Billieâs hand raised and slapped you right across your cheek, the sting instantly flaming up on your plush skin. You let out a gasp, frozen in place for a second.
Did⊠did she justâŠ? No, she couldnât have. She doesnât hit youâsheâs not like that. But as you reached up to touch your inflamed cheek, it made it all so much more real.
You lifted your head to look at her, just to see the same shock on her face, mirroring yours. Except, now, you were terrified. Scared. Of her.
âBabyââ she said, her voice suddenly soft and worried, her hand reaching out.
You took a quick step back, looking her up and down. Like you couldnât recognize this woman anymore. The woman that you thought loved you.
âBaby, pleaseââ you didnât let her finish. You grabbed your bag, flinging it over your shoulder, and practically running out the door. You heard Billieâs desperate plea for you to come back, her footsteps following yours. But you didnât turn back.
You quickly got into your car, turning on the engine before speeding down the road. Not looking back. Because god knows, if you looked back and saw her desperate face standing there, you mightâve just turned back. But you didnât. You kept going.
The drive to your brothersâ house was a blur. A mix of choked sobs and slamming your hand against the steering wheel. You felt so stupidâlike an idiot for ever even mentioning such a thing.
You finally pulled into your brothersâ driveway, sniffling when you grabbed your bag and stepped out of your car. Your movements to the front door were sluggish, weak on your feet from how much youâve been sobbing.
You gently knocked on the door, praying that your brothers were still awake. You rubbed one of your eyes, wiping away the tears tracing your cheeks.
Alex was the one to open the door. He had a baggy t-shirt and sweatpants on, small eye bags under his eyes. But the second he saw you, he was wide awake.
âWoah, what happened?â Alex said worriedly, seeing the red handprint on your cheek. He gently led you inside, taking your bag off your shoulder and hanging it on the coat rack. He let you over to the couch, where Nat was, obliviously drinking a bottle of beer.
But the second he saw you and the slap mark on your cheek, he was as concentrated as he ever was. He helped you sit, before quickly grabbing a blanket and draping it over your shoulders.
âHey, hey, what happened?â Alex asked softly, gently rubbing your back. Nat had gotten up to grab an ice pack for your cheek, desperately searching in the freezer.
You looked up at Alex, tensing up a bit. âMe and Billie⊠we got into a fight. A big oneâŠâ
âThat doesnât explain the slap. Did she do that?â Alex asked tensely, his hand a grounding presence to your racing mind.
You didnât want to speak anymore. You didnât want to talk about anything anymore. But you nodded, before laying your head on Alexâs shoulder. You were so tired. Your throat raspy. So damn tired.
But then, you felt the cool sensation of a bag of peas on your cheek. Nat gently pressed it against the slap mark, placing his free hand on your shoulder.
âYou okay?â Hey asked softly, tucking a piece of stay hair behind your ear.
You nodded softly. You leaned more against Alex, finding comfort in your brothers. At least for right now, you knew you were okay. Just for now.
Days had passed, almost a week. Billie had texted your phone and called you almost two hundred times at this point. You knew she was desperate. But you didnât give in. The wound was still freshâand responding to Billie would be like hand sanitizer rubbed all over it.
You just sat on the couch, not realizing when you would fall asleep from staring at the coffee tableâtoo stuck in your head. But you would always end up lied down with a blanket over top of you.
You were silent, most of the time. Trying to process what had happened that night. Why she had slapped you like that. What had gotten her to that point. You could feel your heart sink each time you thought about itâthe harshness of her hand on your cheek, how it stung harshly.
You leaned back against the couch, a blanket draped over your legs, staring blankly at the tv. You werenât really watching, just staring. Needing somethingâanything to keep your mind occupied.
But thenâthere was a knock on the door. You had slowly turned your head towards the sound, only to find Alex to quickly dart towards it and fling it open. His voice was quiet, and you couldnât make out what he was saying. But then, the person who knocked walked in.
It was Billie. In all her glory. There were dark bags under her eyesâsimilar to yours, her hair in a messy bun, and one of your hoodies. You could smell your perfume wafting off of her. But that didnât stop you from standing up and backing away.
âAlex, what the fuckââ you shakily asked, your eyes darting between the two of them.
âYou were shutting down. You need to work this out, now or never. Please.â Alex begged, his eyes pleading. And before you could open your mouth to respond, he was darting down the hall. Leaving you and Billie.
You turned your head back to your girlfriend, taking in the sight. It looks like she hadnât slept in days. Probably overworking to get her mind off things. She did that so goddamn much, it hurt. But not enough to forget.
âBabyâŠâ Billie said in a soft whisper, reaching out to wrap her arms around you. And when you didnât pull away, she pulled you in. A tight, bone crushing hug.
âGod, baby, Iâm so sorry⊠you had me so worried, I had no idea where you wereâŠâ Billie quietly said, cupping the back of your head, as if for reassurance that you were still there. That you wouldnât slip through her fingers like sand.
You didnât speak. Your throat was raw, choked up. You just held onto her as well, burying your face into her neck.
âIâm so sorry, baby. I didnât mean to, you know that, right? It was an accident. I swear on my own life that I will never do it again. I would burn my entire career down just so I can see you smiling again.â
She desperately pulled awayâjust enough to see your face. Just enough so she could pull you closer again, your lips connecting in a deep, warm kiss. Filled with longing, desperation, and deep sense of love.
You instantly relaxed into it, letting your eyes flutter shut. You let out a soft sigh, kissing her back. Your arms wrapped around her neck, pulling her closer. Like you couldnât get enough.
Finally, you both pulled away with shaky breaths, and tears welling up in Billieâs eyes. You reached up and gently wiped under her eye, flicking away the stray tear. She giggled softly, wiping her eyes.
âYou ever hit me again, Iâm not coming back.â You said, voice quiet but there was no joking in it. You were dead serious, and if she ever didâyou were gone.
âI wonât. I donât want to. I canât.â Billie said, desperation in her voice. Thenâshe held up her pinkie finger, speaking softly. âPinky promise.â
You chuckled softly, rolling your eyes at the kiddish promise. But you locked your pinkie around hers, and kissed your knuckle. Billie did the same, before pulling away.
âYeah, you better fuckinâ not.â Nats voice rang out, anger filling it. Of course he was peeping. Overprotective asshole. You rolled your eyes, before flipping him off, because you trusted Billie. Not just because it was Billieâbut because of the pinkie promise.
It was something stupidâbut it meant a lot to you. And Billie never broke a pinkie promise. You nuzzled your head back into Billieâs chest, sighing softly.
âWanna go home?â Billie said, combing her fingers through your hair.
âyeah,â you said, gently tugging at her shirt. âBut just so you know, you owe me a shopping trip and a half. And Starbucks.â
Billie groaned playfully, but there was a smile on her face. She rolled her eyes, âfine, fine! Whatever the princess wants, the princess gets.â
âYou owe me. You hit me.â You said smugly.
Billie groaned, hiding her face in your hair. âYouâre gonna use that for so much blackmail, arenât you?â
âUseful. Youâll never say no to me after this. Itâs a big opportunity, I canât pass it up.â You said with a soft giggle, holding onto her closer.
Billie didnât complain further. Because she couldnât complain when she had the love of her life back in her arms, back to feeling safe and secure.
And thatâs all she ever needed. â. đ Ì
Śâ°â†if this flops I quit and youâll never see me again trust
i usually try to not care about who celebrities choose to date but billieâs situation is actually frustrating bc she like constantly gets with people who actively contradict her beliefs like i would absolutely love to be happy for her but nat is a racist, a trump supporter and has indulged in a sexual relationship with his own BROTHER to which they both openly admitted it??, like nat isnât a good person and billie definitely could do better (idk if this a hot take or not, donât kill međ„č)
