We just got back from Belgium, where, when ordering dinner at a local restaurant I told the proprietor (who waited on us) that I didn't see french fries on the menu and did they have any? Her response (with a grin): "Madam, this is Belgium! We don't have to say....." and of course we got a platterful. The next day, we had cocktails and a snack at our hotel: french fries with truffles and Parmesan cheese. I would give a lot for some of these tomorrow (National French fries day). Unfortunately, I am no longer in Brussels. Sigh. I dream about these. French fries. These, with truffle and Parmesan cheese plus a side bit of mayonnaise NOT KETCHUP for a dab (tho not necessary).
