What does one famous chef, one popular French cooking show and one 18th century Paris restaurant have in common? Meet Raymond Oliver, one of the most celebrated 20th century chefs in all of France. A well known authoritarian on French cooking, Raymond hosted his own popular midcentury cooking show in France called Art and Magic of Cooking, and was the chef owner for 30 years of Le Grand Vefour, a restaurant in Paris that had been in operation since 1784. Rumor has it that he gave Julia Child a run for her money when he published this giant 891 page cookbook, La Cuisine, showing home cooks how to approach French cooking with a modern mindset.
