Itās really funny to see theĀ āBazaar of the Bizarreā trope on TV Tropes
Because in France we actually have one.Ā
It is a franchise calledĀ āLe Bazar du Bizarreā (translation of the trope name). This is a franchise of shops specialized in science fiction and fantasy. They sell everything nerd and geeks can ever dream of: card games, board games, tabletop games, roleplay games, comic books, figurines, toys, mangas, everything!Ā
They also hosted card game duels, and roleplay parties, and stuff like that, it was so cool! This is where I bought my Horror at Arkham games, my Discworld board games, some of my Magic card games, and other things like that!
TheĀ āfranchiseā (if it can be called a franchise) opened in 1997, and was at first five shops spread across all of Northern France.
Now itās... only three shops. There used to be one in Paris, but it apparently disappeared (probably crushed by the appearance of other manga-only or comic book-specialized shops), and there used to be one in my town. It was part of one of the shopping areas, with old fashioned buildings entirely made of tainted glass, with offices on top and shops at the ground level. Shops, post offices, even a restaurant if I remember well? It was an entire block. They got rid of it when they decided to extend the RER station nearby (I think itās RSP, for English speakers?). So they got rid of the entire block and made this huge RER station.Ā
The three shops left are in Rouen, Caen and Lille if you are interested. (The Rouen one was apparently the first of them all).Ā
