Last week Newberry staff enjoyed a visit from three members of the French Consulate in Chicago. We gave them a behind-the-scenes peek at the French Revolution Collection--numbering more than 30,000 pamphlets and 180 periodical titles--in the stacks and discussed some representative items (like this broadside issued by Louis XVI just 3 days before the Storming of the Bastille!). Then we heard presentations by Director of Digital Initiatives and Services Jennifer Dalzin on our project to digitize the Newberry’s French pamphlet collections and French Professor Pascale-Anne Brault of DePaul University on the work of her students to translate the digitized pamphlets into English. It was a wonderful afternoon of cultural exchange!
