i like how this all ties in with guts desperately seeking griffith's attention during all of golden age ... and griffith really only grants it to him, truly, without it feeling obligatory or reactionary in some way. the smile he gave him across the ballroom was the big payoff of this theme imo ♥ it's such an enormous tragedy that guts' confidence in his role in griffith's life was shaken
ugh yeah so true. I love that ballroom smile bc it’s such a little seemingly insignificant moment but it speaks volumes, and it’s such a perfect way to end a chapter called “moment of glory” lol. Griffith just single handedly won a century long war and achieved the biggest step towards his dream yet, but more importantly, Guts.

I mean same. Give or take Serpico and Farnese and Puck tbf. But especially when it comes to Guts’ friendships with them like, I know I just wrote a post about how Miura didn’t do much to sell his Golden Age friendships, and maybe it’s just because I’m biased lol, but they stlil feel more solid and warm and like actual friendship to me than his friendships with anyone in the rpg group, except like, Puck again lol, and that’s all pre-Millenium Falcon arc.
But idk maybe it’s less bc I’m biased and more because Guts is meant to be more distant. Considering like, all the Griffith comparisons, the rpg group respecting him as... an intense dude who can fight or w/e lol moreso than the Hawks who saw him more as just another soldier - but in a positive, comradely way, everyone crushing on or hero worshipping him, etc. Like I’m sure in the 150 chapters since they joined him Guts has had more ~moments with the rpg group, both plot centric and casual, than he had with various Hawks, but I just get such a sense of Guts being more closed off and distant regardless. More polite + considered, more mentor-ly, less overtly emotional, etc.
Like it feels much more like Griffith’s relationship to the Hawks than Guts’ relationship with the Hawks, and ofc I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that’s going somewhere.
(Especially if it’s a deliberate contrast to the intensity of his relationship with Griffith, which I think is entirely possible, largely due to the Beast of Darkness comparing them lol. warm lights vs true light, js)
Sorry I kind of just took your one sentence reply as a prompt to ramble a bit lol.
