I got the MVC Collection.
Somehow these games didn't seem appealing to me when they first came out, which in retrospect seems bizarre to me. I loved Marvel Comics in the 90s and 2000s; I got introduced to them by my older and cooler male cousins when I was an impressionable tween and I loved them so much. I read so many X-Men comics in the 90s, and well into when I was an undergrad. I went to the comic shop to buy old comics while I was in gradschool.
I don't know chat. I loved Street Fighter. I loved Marvel. ... the combination of these things didn't seem like my thing? It seemed too nuts, like it was a silly flashing-lights sensory-overload not-serious thing.
Not sure what changed, or if I could have loved them when they came out, but like... maaaaan.
These games are *so beautiful*. The music. The sprite work, and how it's all clearly influenced by 90s-style comics; it all looks like a pixel-art version of Jim Lee X-Men.
They clearly loved the lore so much. I was playing X-Men vs Street Fighter just now, and Sabretooth has Birdy take his coat. They knew about Birdy. They made her look great in the sprites.
I'm going to learn to Mahvel. When's Mahvel? Now. Mahvel is now.
I'm still upset that MouseCorp owns Marvel. But I wanna learn to play MVC games now.
