While I worked like crazy at NAMM (50+ meetings in three days), I did manage to nab a handful of autographs—the last being this: Freedy Johnston on a Record Store Day Back-to-Back release from a few years ago for his 1990s folk pop classic, “Bad Reputation.” He did a well-attended set at the Sennheiser booth but doesn’t attract autograph seekers, given his music, so it was easy to get. He thoughtfully signed on the label so I could still play it and drew a small Saturn as well for some reason. While I met a few artists more famous or “important,” this was my favorite signature of the show because this is a near-perfect song that only grows deeper with age.
