NEW YEARS KISSES | accepting.Β
Β Β Β Β Β Β Β Β IT WAS TWOΒ minutes until midnight, but everyone had been drinking since the sun went down, and the kisses were already being messily pressed onto lips and cheeks, throwing the love around. In the party, someone on the other side of the room shouted change is coming!, and Clark grinned, taking a drink of his beer.Β
It didnβt do anything to him, but it was fun to participate, sometimes.Β
Everywhere, the air was humming, and all of the group gathered raised their glasses and their eyes to the close as they watched the countdown.
Someone began singing Auld Lang Syne, and they were remarkably on-key for how long the party had been going. In late December, the sun set so early in the afternoon, and the gathered heroes and loved ones had been celebrating since then. The Kryptonians and other otherwise-difficult-to-get-drunk heroes were the designated heroes in case anything happened, but it looked like the ring in the new year was going to be a quiet, buzzing affair.
When the growing voices got to the chorus, the clock struck midnight, and Clark felt a pair of lips find their way onto his cheek. He looked over and saw one of the few people who were around his height, and he grinned. Steveβs bright eyes glinted in the sparkling lights of the Christmas strands still draped around the room, though New Years gold had been added to make everything appropriate for their current festivities. Everyone around them was either pairing off for a soft moment at midnight, or trying to capture as many lips as they could before the minute was up. Somehow, Steve and Clark had ended up by the side of the room, quietly out of the way of the rogues collecting kisses, watching the festivities unfold.Β
Clark grinned, putting down the ineffective beer as the champagne was passed around, grabbing two flutes off the tray. He passed one to Captain America, holding his up for a small toast.
βHappy New Year, Captain,β he said with a wide smile.Β βWonder what this year will bring.βΒ
