After a considerable delay due to erm laziness on my part and nowt else, I thought it was about time that I pulled my finger out and resurrected #thefridaymixtape. I thought I'd dedicate this one to the magic of the internets and in particular the joy of Bandcamp. Whilst it relieves me of way too much money, I love scouring Bandcamp and discovering fantastic music from all over the world that I might not otherwise have come across. This week's mixtape is made up of five recent highlights for me. There are so many other things I could have chosen - go to bandcamp.com/jonnycarr if you want to have a nose at some of the other ace stuff out there. 1. Soda Fountain Rag are up first with Lovesong For The Geek from their Extra Life LP. "And who says it isn't cool... Knowing the names of all the planets and the stars.” Nuff said. 2. Next up are the simply wonderful band Susan with Stay Too from the Never Enough LP. Great garage pop. 3. If you haven't come across the marvellous Mitski before, you really need to give her a listen. Such a stunning voice. My choice here is Your Best American Girl from the forthcoming album Puberty 2. 4. free cake for every creature (their lack of capitals) are the perfect sound for summer. I've gone for a track called for you from their album talking quietly of anything with you. 5. Last but not least, ace Welsh sounds from the excellent Seazoo with The Heart Of Hercules from their recent Jumbo EP. Hopefully there'll be another #thefridaymixtape next week.
