On What Good eCommerce Website to Use
There's one question on the Warrior Forum that I always get asked by a client looking for help with an ecommerce website.
What is a good e-commerce website to use? The one I have is unfortunately in China and extremely difficult to communicate with. Is there any others besides Volusion? I am not good in websites so I need something difficult? Any referrals would be appreciated.
Great question. If you're looking for solutions - whether you're having your website designed or you're shopping for a new tool - you might be able to get some ideas from my answers:
Hi, domainscience. That's a really great question about ecommerce systems. It really depends on what your level of comfort is with regards to the different kinds of ecommerce technology out there. Volusion is one that you mentioned but it doesn't seem like it’s working for you.
There’s a couple of solutions that you might want to check. One is FoxyCart at foxycart.com. Depending on the number of products that you have in your store, it’s an easy solution to implement and I use it on a number of client sites.
You might also want to check out Shopify. Shopify is built with the designer in mind so that you can worry more about designing and what you want to build than having to know the nitty-gritty details that’s going on with the text side of things on the website.
Then you can go the next level. There's one that I frequently use. As a matter of fact, I have a store set up with it. The solution’s called Magento Commerce. It might be an easier solution to use in the sense that you can download the community version for free and buy a premium theme for it and be off and running quickly. The learning curve is kind of steep though and it's a pretty heavy system in terms of server resources usage so you’d want to make sure you have a really solid web hosting plan for it.
One other ecommerce solution that I use is Drupal's Ubercart which I’ve got running on a couple of my clients' sites on. My own site actually uses it for a couple different things. It's very robust, very easy to use…that is, if you know how to use Drupal.

FoxyCart is my new favorite eCommerce system. It is extremely easy to get started with. You have full design control over all aspects of it (cart, checkout, receipts). It has the features you need (downloadables, security, saved accounts, subscriptions). Best of all, it's not a bloated CMS. You can build products on-the-fly using very simple code. This means you can use it easily on static pages, with pre-existing CMSs or roll your own CMS. I'm going to walk through much of the process of setting up FoxyCart and show you how it works in production.
